GPF 2016 RULES

Welcome to the Grand Prix Fantasy 2016 rules page. Shown below are the rules for this season's Grand Prix Fantasy competition.

Entries

  • 2016 Entries must be completed by 01:30(GMT) Friday 18th March 2016 (or the start of Free Practice 1 for the Australian Grand Prix).
  • You can have an unlimited number of entries.
  • Santander Only: Competition entries cost £5 each. An invitation code is also required to enter. Once the entry dead line has passed; your entry fee is non-refundable. 100% of all entry fees go into the prize fund. At the end of the season, the prize fund is split up accordingly and awarded to the top ten finishers. The last place finisher will have their entry fee returned (from the prize fund) as consolation.
  • Silverstone Racing Club Only: Competition entries are free. But an invitation code is required to enter.
  • Silverstone UTC Only: Competition entries are free. But an invitation code is required to enter.
  • Giant Bomb Alt+F1 Only: Competition entries are free. But an invitation code is required to enter.
  • World Open Only: Competition entries are free and open. No invitation code is required to enter.

Season Budget

  • You have a budget of £100M available to spend.
  • You can spend over budget to a maximum of £110M. But you will be penalised with penalty budget points. These points are subtracted at the rate of 10 points per £1M from your initial score.
  • You can spend under budget to as little as you like. You will be rewarded with bonus budget points on the first £15M under spent. These points are added at the rate of 10 points per £1M to your initial score.

Team & Driver Selection

  • You must select two different teams.
  • You must select two different drivers, neither of whom drive for either of your selected teams.
  • You are not allowed to change your team and driver selection after the start of the opening Grand Prix's first practise session. If you want to modify your team before the deadline; please email me.

Tiebreaker Driver Selection

  • You must select a driver for tiebreak conditions (in the event your entry's line-up is identical to other players). This driver is who you think will score the highest amount of GPF points for the season. You can choose any driver you wish; regardless of any 'Team & Driver Selection' rules and even if you have selected the driver already (for your selected line-up). The cost of the driver is NOT accounted for and does not affect your budget.
  • Santander Only: If your entry selection and tiebreaker driver selection are still identical to another player's; then you will be contacted for further instructions.

Driver Replacements & Substitutes

  • If one of your drivers loses his/her seat (e.g. by being sacked or injured); then you will have the lost driver's replacement added to your entry's line-up.
  • If one of your drivers changes teams, then you will continue to score for the changing driver and not for his/her replacement.
  • If a lost driver from your original entry returns to racing; then this driver will also return to your entry's line-up. Even if the returning driver does not drive to the same team as when they left.
  • If one of your originally selected drivers moves to one of your originally selected teams; then you will score points for both team and driver individually (as before the move).
  • If one of your originally selected drivers replaces your other selected driver; then you will score points for your remaining driver twice.

Team Withdrawals

  • If one of your teams withdraws from racing, then you will no longer score points from this team and NO replacement will be made.
  • If a lost team from your original entry returns to racing; then the returning team will once again score points for your entry.
  • If one of your drivers drives for a withdrawn team, then you will no longer score points from this driver and NO replacement will be made. However; you will continue to score from this driver if they start racing for another team.

Results & Scoring

  • Teams and drivers must have a classified finishing position to score points (must complete 90% race distance).
  • Teams scores are based on the best placed finishing car of their team (this might not be the highest competition point scoring car). The team will also receive any improvement and/or bonus points the driver may have earned too.
  • Qualification and race results will be taken from the official FIA website (www.fia.com).
  • Qualification results are taken from the 'Qualifying Session' classification and not the race day grid positioning. This is before any starting grid penalties are added (for changing an engine, changing a gearbox, for being naughty, etc...). This will stop any penalised teams or drivers gaining an unfair 'improvement points' advantage.
  • If a driver/team is excluded from qualifying and they are still permitted to take part in the race; no improvement points will be awarded.
  • The players standings table is sorted by: the player's total GPF points, then by the player's tie-break driver GPF points and then finally by the player's total F1 points. There are no level or tied players and the order on the standings table is final.

F1 & GPF Points System

  • GPF points apply to both teams and drivers (where applicable).
  • If a race is stopped before 75% race distance is completed; then half points will be awarded.
  • Points System:
Position F1 points GPF points
1st 25 25
2nd 18 18
3rd 15 15
4th 12 12
5th 10 10
6th 8 8
7th 6 6
8th 4 4
9th 2 2
10th 1 1

Improvement Points

  • 1 point is added for every place a driver has finished higher than their qualifying position (e.g. If qualifying position is 11th and the driver finishes the race in 7th, then 10 points will be award, 4 improvement points and 6 finishing position points). No points are lost if a driver finishes lower than his qualifying position.
  • Removed in 2013: A maximum of 10 improvement points can be awarded per race.
  • You can now score unlimited improvement points in each race.

Bonus Points

  • 2 points for pole position.
  • 1 point for the fastest lap during the race.
  • 1 extra point is awarded if a driver gets pole position, fastest lap and the race win (at one event).

Driver & Team Penalties

  • In the event that the FIA choose to deduct points from a team or driver during the season; then players with that team or driver will be punished too. The amount of F1 points being deducted by the FIA will be the same as the amount of GPF points to be deducted from a player's total score.
  • In the event that the FIA disqualify a team or driver from the championship during the season; then players with that team or driver will be punished too. All GPF points that the team or driver has scored throughout the season will be removed from the player's total score.

Mid Season Rule Changes

  • In the event of unforeseen circumstances; rules maybe added or changed to control possible situations.
  • Rule changes made can be made at anytime during the season.
  • New rules will take immediate effect but they may not be necessarily back dated.
  • Rule changes that are made are final and are not open to contest (although opinions and feedback are welcomed).
