What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small file, typically of letters and numbers, downloaded on to a device when the user accesses certain websites (including this one). Cookies are then sent back to originating website on each subsequent visit.
Why does this website need cookies?
GrandPrixFantasy.com requires cookies to be enabled for a number of things. Here's what they are called and what they do:
- gpf_acceptcookies: This stores the word "accepted" upon clicking the "Allow Cookies" button. The web server can read this cookie and see that you've allowed this website to use cookies. Therefore hiding the allow cookies prompt at the top of every page. It also enables the website's code to read and write cookies where it needs to too. This cookie expires and is deleted after 365 days (persistent cookie).
- PHPSESSID: This stores a generated session number upon your visit to our website. The web server can then read this cookie and identify you with the session number. It's only used on this website when using forms (the 'entry form' or 'add comment' form). It is a requirement of the 'Security Code' (CAPTCHA) functionality. This cookie expires and is deleted when you close your browser (session cookie).
- mygpf_s[season number]_group: This stores the name of the last group/competition you visited whilst on our website. The web server can read this cookie and direct you back to your latest visited group/competition. For example: You visit the Santander standings page. You then at a later date return to http://www.grandprixfantasy.com/ and the Santander competition will be automatically selected for you. This cookie expires and is deleted after 31 days (persistent cookie). However this cookie will be renewed upon each visit to our website.
- mygpf_[season number]_[group number]_[player number]: This stores the word "myGPF" upon following a player on our website. The web server reads the name of these cookies to detect if you are following the player currently being processed by the website's code. For example: on the standings page, when the code is generating the table and detects a followed player, the code will change the row's background colour. This cookie expires and is deleted after 365 days (persistent cookie). It is however expired immediately upon unfollowing a player.
- rssfeed: This stores a rss feed id number when changing from the default rss feed on the 'myGPF' page. The web server reads this cookie and determines what rss feed file to read to generate the F1 news on the 'Home' page. This cookie expires and is deleted after 365 days (persistent cookie).
Is that it?
Yes; that's all the cookies we use. The number of cookies may vary depending on how many players you follow (one for each player following). But as a general rule: this website only needs three cookies to function correctly (no Cookie-Monster here).
Can I see these cookies?
Of course you can. The method of reading your cookies is different depending on which internet browser you are using. But here's a good How to Guide for the most common browsers.
If you have any other queries regarding privacy (or anything else for that matter) please contact
