How two ex-Ferrari top F1 engineers divide their responsibilities at Mercedes

Last summer, for the first time in 23 years, Simone Resta had the opportunity to attend to his garden. Not that this was a priority, since Resta had a more pressing task ahead: arranging a move to the UK, where he was to join Mercedes as strategic development director. That move was announced in March last year, just two months after he returned to Maranello from a secondment at Haas.Resta ...Keep reading

Could Lewis Hamilton really be in free fall?

?Lewis is in free fall, isn?t he?? That was a message I?d received this week from a friend, who is a staunch Hamilton supporter. The timing was interesting, as moments before, an email had dropped containing the comments from former F1 driver-turned-pundit Johnny Herbert, who is rapidly becoming Mr Rent-A-Quote on all manner of subjects, with his remarks freely available to use as a ...Keep reading

Formula 1?s flexi-wing furore has been simmering for months, but came to a ragged and inconsequential termination during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend when new deflection tests were applied ? and not much changed. The tests clamped down on the amount of flex permitted on the front wings of F1?s machinery, and followed a similar tightening of the regulation around aero-elasticity in rear ...Keep reading

How McLaren will manage Norris and Piastri now it controls both F1 championship fights

Having the fastest car on the grid and two drivers worthy of being world champions is probably the second-best scenario for which a team principal could wish. The ideal, of course, is to have the quickest car, a super-fast number-one driver, and a number two who is quick enough but willing to sacrifice their own interests for the team. This is rare indeed in elite sport and neither Oscar ...Keep reading
